Saturday August 10 and Sunday August 11, 12:00-4:00 PM

Writers and aspiring authors of all levels and genres are invited to join three prominent industry professionals for an exciting and informative two-day workshop on the business and craft of writing. Come for one or both days to hear Vineyard novelist and freelance editor John Hough Jr., New York literary agent Sorche Elizabeth Fairbank, and bestselling nonfiction author Matthew Frederick describe the workings of the changing publishing industry, and to participate in workshops that will help you improve and position your writing for the best opportunity in today's rapidly changing publishing environment.

The Vineyard Writers workshop will be held in West Tisbury at Island Co-Housing, the beautiful home of the Yoga Collective, and many Island events.

Day 2, Sunday August 11: The Craft of Writing

Faculty: John Hough Jr. and  Matthew Frederick

Whether you are working on fiction, non-fiction, memoir, or a yet-to-be-defined project, this workshop will help you sharpen and focus your approach and techniques. Acclaimed novelist and freelance editor John Hough Jr. and bestselling nonfiction author Matthew Frederick (101 Things I Learned® series) will advise writers, from basic to advanced, on ways to conceptualize, elevate, and hone their work. Students, depending on individual needs, will discuss and work on concept, structure, plot, dialogue, and other aspects of their projects.  The finale of the day will be a “literary idol” panel, in which you will have the opportunity to have your first page or synopsis read aloud for constructive critique by Sorche, Matthew, and John.
